Day 20
Positive Surroundings

Good morning!! It was so awesome to hear people sharing gratitude with others and even personally receiving messages and phone calls of expressing the gratitude challenge. I know many people have busy lives, but I encourage you to live out the challenges of positivity that were presented this week. Now that we are winding down the positivity fast an important factor of maintenance arises. In this process we have to begin to realize who we are to be surrounded by and what things we should allow in our presence in order to move in a more positive direction in life.

If you haven't done so yet begin to pray that God changes your surroundings and makes you more aware of the things that pull you away from being positive. This could be certain friends, certain music, and certain things you watch on television or even certain places you go. In order to become more positive it is also important to know you are not meant to do it alone. The bible tells us in Proverbs 27:17 that "iron sharpens iron". Some of you have been taking this journey to positivity already with friends or family which is great. Let people you are around know your goals to live more positively so that when they see you slipping they can remind you of who you are striving to be.

Throughout this fast I have found it to be wonderful in times when things go wrong to have those friends around to remind me that I need to look at or say something more positively. You see, society often encourages us to remain isolated and minimize relationships, or not make new friends, but God wants us in community so that we can hold accountability to each other. This principle goes for far more than positivity but in life (marriage, celibacy, completing school, breaking addiction, etc) we are not meant to do it alone.

Today I encourage you to start evaluating who is holding you accountable and what surroundings you are in. If you do not have people doing so begin to open up to those around you. If you don't have any positive people around you, I can help connect you to some or help you pray for it. I've heard many great testimonies of people who've asked God for new genuine people in their lives and have received that and much more. Don’t walk this path alone. I hope you all have a wonderful blessed day!! - Monica

Gratefulness

Day 19

Day 19

Gratefulness Paid Forward

Good morning!! Sorry for the delay today. Early this morning I received a message, the theme of being grateful continued to weigh heavy in my spirit. In reading someone's expression of gratitude, it allowed me to reflect upon my gratitude for the people and things in my life. I then realized the impact it makes in one's life to know and be told that they are appreciated. It was then that the Lord had me realize that although we touched upon not wanting what others have, we truly did not dive into the importance of being grateful.

Each of us has one thing in common to be grateful for today, which is, if you are reading this, you woke up to see another day! In our prayers let’s not ever forget to tell God the things we are grateful for and not just always asking. He too wants us to acknowledge that we see what He is doing in our lives. The most positive thing we could do is find less reasons to complain and more reasons to express gratitude. Though it may look tough on your end, there are others battling the same situations or worse, and you have been given another day to fight in this life that someone else wasn’t. But remember, you're not fighting alone. God is always with you, His word states in Hebrews 13:5 "... I will never leave you nor forsake you."

Today I challenge you to reflect upon these past 19 days or even this past year if you must and acknowledge all the things and people to be grateful for. In addition to paying positivity forward give someone a call, send an email or a text message, write a note or even make a visit to someone. Make it a point to express to 3 people that you are grateful for something they have done or that they currently do for you (big or small). Even something like “thank you for getting me coffee that day I was really tired”, “thanks you for always smiling in the morning”, “thank you for being there when I needed you most” or even thanking you leaders for the work that they do, the list goes on. These purposeful actions not only work on your heart, but theirs as well. This of all things I challenged I truly encourage EVERY single one of you to do. Simply send me a message saying “Done”.

I look forward to manyyyyy messages over the week saying “Done”. I am grateful that over 120 of you have given me an opportunity to be used by God in your life these past 19 days. Thank you!!! Have a Happy Monday! - Monica B.

Smile

Day 18

Smiling in spite of

Good morning!! I hope that you have been remembering your random and intentional acts of kindness. Spread the positivity even if you are struggling yourself, it will make you feel better. One way we can spread positivity is to smile. Though it may seem small we do not know how it may impact someone's day or even encourage them to smile. Even when you are not having the best of days there is so much power in your ability to smile. It is the “in spite of” choice. In spite of my day I will choose to smile, I will choose to be positive. In spite of my circumstance I will choose to be intentional about how I treat others.

Smile

There is an anonymous quote that says "your smile is a gift to the world". You may not be able to gift the world with materialistic things but you have the impact and ability to smile as a gift. Some people accept the fact that they "look mean" to others even if they are nice and just expect people to go out their way and approach them (which may happen sometimes) but it's not okay.

Start being intentional about smiling just because with people you know and people you encounter, as well as saying good morning, etc. Don't get comfortable in not radiating your positivity to others. Fun research fact they've found smiling helps with certain health benefits including lowering blood pressure, improves mood, relieves stress, strengthens your immune system, lessens pain and simply smiling is contagious.

I encourage you today to begin practicing improving the frequency of your smile! Have a fantastic day smile filled day!!! - Monica

Sensing your senses

Day 9

Good morning!! As important as it is to watch what you say it is also good that you are aware of how you are using your other senses. Two of them in particular we want to focus on today are your eyes and your ears.

What you see and hear can easily become something that either causes you to sin, create a negative mindset or simply becoming numb to it where you have no emotion. An example might be that you watch so many fighting videos that as you are watching someone get beat up you have no emotion to stop it. And with that same scenario another outcome could be that you yourself begin to feel that the answer is fighting, and that there is nothing wrong with fighting.

If you hear someone say something enough times there is a high chance that you will replay it in your mind and that could cause you to believe the negative things they say or to become negative yourself. Matt 5:28 says “anyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery” which is an example of how powerful your eyes can connect to your thoughts and actions.
 Sense Your Senses
What are you watching or listening to that causes you to slip back negatively? Maybe it's the people you’re around, things you watch, music you listen to, whatever it may be that prompts negativity. Spend today reflecting on these things and become more intentional about what you take in. Remember it's your gift. Praying for you all! Have a blessed, positive day!! -Monica

Loved to Love.

Good morning!!! This has been heavy on my heart to share this morning. Our positivity truly expands with understanding that we are loved. Not temporarily, not superficially, but unconditionally loved. Many people know the Bible verse John 3:16, “For God so loved the world…” however do you live by that knowledge that you are loved?

LOVED
DAY 5

When we truly grasp this concept that we are loved by God we do not hold mere humans to such a high standard to love us. This knowledge should push you to love others even more than you are worried about how they love you. I know this sounds complex to some and I want you to read 1 John 4:16-21 in depth. In verse 19, it tells us that “we love each other because He (God) loved us first.” What it does not say is only love your friends, family or select few, it tells us love each other. This may be hard as we know people do things at times that honestly make them EXTREMELY hard to love. Let’s remember that we don’t choose not love them, we just choose to not like their behaviors. You can love someone or show love to someone without approving their behaviors, choices or attitudes. Think about it, God still shows us love despite our sinful nature and although he does not approve of our behaviors, He still loves us. A parent loves their child even if they do not approve of their disobedience, but they still manage to love them. This proves we have the ability to love those even if we do not like their behaviors. So let’s begin to think about how we are or are not showing love to those around us and how we can show love more on purpose. Today let’s choose love! I know this can be tough, BUT GOD. If anyone needs additional prayer or encouragement on this please feel free to reach out via the email icon at the bottom of this post. Sending much love your way!!! God bless. - Monica

Ready, Set, Reset.

DAY 1
On your marks, get set and reset:
Good morning! Today we begin our journey of 21 days of positive thoughts, words and actions. I know some of you desire this reset but doubt that you can become more positive but let's eliminate even that thought out of our minds. You may consistently deal with doubt and that itself is negative. How do we face doubt? Faith. Even the smallest bit of faith can move mountains (Matt 17:20). I know that your willingness to try this is an action with faith and know that God can change these habits. Let’s remove focus on the things we have done last week, yesterday or even 5 minutes ago. Every conscious effort you make towards being more positive is more important than the past. This is a reset. Let us renew our minds and allow the transformation to begin.
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2 - Monica

21 days of positivity

Hello loves! Just in case you're wondering, yes - I'm still over here celebrating #Summer16, and yes in September because summer isn't officially over until September 22nd!

This summer has been wonderful thus far ( I am eager to share my #Summer16 recap with you next month). Although summer has been amazing, it seems as though September has snuck up on me and bit me on the ankles! Aggghhh, autumn is literally around the corner, and with that revelation, I've been thinking about goals and the last quarter of the year. In mulling these things over mentally, it's easy to get a little discouraged because we haven't accomplished everything on our infamous "to do" lists, and if you're like me that reality can began to take a toll on you mentally, feelings of defeat, despair, and discouragement, if not checked will grow into ugly monsters. Well, don't fret! I've got just the thing to help us get back on track for this last quarter of the year.

Meet Monica, she is the host of the annual mobile 21 Day Positivity Fast. This year, we will participate in the fast on the blog for the next 21 days, I hope you will take part as well! 21 days of positivity to assist us with finishing 2016 strong. Please share with a friend! Be blessed!

21 Days of Positivity

Hello, I'm Monica! If you were to ever meet me in person, you'd likely find a smile on my face - I am a 29 year old Christian (bible believing, Jesus loving, transparent, people loving, down to earth, giving and caring type Christian).
In 2010, I was forced to do some introspection; after going through a rough summer, and being around so much negativity. I knew that I could not live like this anymore, and needed a change. I am known by many for my infectious smile and my positive attitude, however my reality during that time was that my thoughts, actions and words weren't so positive, and my smile wasn't very infectious. As I prayed about everything that was happening, God placed it on my heart to fast from all of the negativity and focus on the positive things in my life (Philippians  4:8).
I asked a few friends to join me on my fast and thus the beginning of the 21 Days of being intentional about positive thoughts, words and actions began.
Some may ask "Why 21 days?", because it generally takes 21 days to start or break a habit. This 21 day fast allows myself and those who participate a chance to purposefully think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of a good report. Choosing to think positive is not an easy task, especially in today's day and age, however through Christ it is possible (Philippians 4:13 I [we] can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me [us].)
Now in our 6th year, we have had over 100 people participate in the 21 Day Positivity Fast. This fast is so meaningful to me because every year I experience significant change in my life and thoughts. I am committed to this journey, and want everyone who participates to experience the same growth and victory that I have experienced. During the fast I wake up each morning and seek the Lord, each message is written on the morning that it is sent, and is a culmination of what God places on my heart.
I am also blessed daily with fresh perspective, and I love hearing how the daily message was significant in speaking to different people in many ways. My desire is to spread positive outlooks to all, so that we can share a more positive, enriching life experience in this world. I pray that the fast is a blessing to you this year!
Each one, reach one (or two or 3),

New Beginnings

January 7, 2015

Happy New Year! It feels good to be in 2015. We are all blessed to have this privilege to start fresh. Each year millions of people began the new year with resolutions and promises that often fall short before January is over. I encourage you this year to simply be the best that you can be. Whether that means, more time with God, more exercise, being a better friend, being a better wife or parent; simply be your best. God will assist you once you make your mind up to do your part.

I recently read a transcript on a great website "The Christian Working Woman" entitled New Beginnings (The transcript is below!). This transcript was a breath of fresh air for me, and it blessed me immensely, and I pray that it blesses you as well. Be encouraged and remember that you can do anything that you put your mind to. Each new moment is an opportunity to have a new beginning.

When I think back over my life, there are many things I would like to change.  I would like to make better choices and decisions, make smarter moves, manage my money better, use my time more wisely—oh, there are many things I could have done so much better.
But mostly, when I think back over my life, I would like to avoid the sins of my past, the times when I wandered far away from God, the things I did in disobedience to him.  I would like to erase those things I did which brought dishonor to his name; those times when I was a poor witness for Jesus Christ and a poor representative of the Kingdom of God.
But of course, there is nothing to be gained by brooding over the past.  Yesterday is gone; tomorrow is only a promise.  The only thing you and I have is today.  So, if we don’t want to have any more regrets to look back on in the future, then we must set our minds and hearts to begin today anew.
How do we do that?  Well, the first and most important thing is to make certain that we’ve been made a new creation in Christ.  That’s where all new beginnings have their start, and without that transformation inside of us, any new beginnings we will attempt will be short-lived and futile.
The Bible says that when you become a new creation in Christ Jesus, the old has gone and the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17).  It’s the most wonderful new beginning anyone can ever have.  It’s that moment when you pass from death to life—when you are no longer under God’s condemnation because your sins are forgiven and your eternal destiny is assured.
Maybe you have not yet had that new beginning.  If I could sit down and talk with you personally, could you tell me of the time when you recognized your sinful condition, realized you could do nothing about it yourself, and came to God through Christ in humility to ask for forgiveness of all your past sins?  Do you know that you’ve been born again, because Jesus told us that we must be born again in order to be a part of his Kingdom?
You see, most people today have the wrong idea of what it means to be a Christian.  They think it means trying to be a good person, doing good deeds, going to church, being baptized, doing more good things than bad things, and so forth.  Most people are trying to earn their way to heaven by doing good things and being a good person.
But here’s the truth, as the Bible tells us.  None of us is righteous in ourselves, and not one of us can be good enough to meet God’s requirements for holiness.  Therefore, on our own merit we cannot become a new person; we cannot have this new beginning.
That sounds pretty helpless and hopeless, until you realize what Jesus Christ has done for you in order to rectify your dilemma.  He came as the perfect Son of God, died in order to pay the penalty for your sin, and rose again from the dead, in order to purchase for you and me eternal life.  God’s righteous requirements have been met in Jesus, and we are given the opportunity to accept his payment for our sins.
The Bible says that “God made him (Jesus) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).  Jesus took your place and mine as a sacrifice for our sins, so that we could have his righteousness and therefore be acceptable to God.  But this free gift of righteousness has to be accepted and believed.
Have you ever done that?  If not, then that’s the new beginning that you need today.  Nothing else matters as much as making certain that you’ve had this new beginning in Christ, because this determines where you will spend all of eternity—in heaven or in hell.  If you have not yet accepted Jesus as the Savior and Lord of your life, you can do that right now.  There’s no reason to wait.  Just pray right where you are, right now, that God will forgive you of all your sins and give you the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
We’ll be glad to send you more information from God’s Word about this new beginning in Christ which can be yours, but believe me, it is not complicated.  It’s very simple:  Confess your sins, believe in Jesus Christ that he is the only way to God, and you will become a new creation in Christ.
Many of you have done that sometime in your past, but you still feel as though you need a new beginning.  You haven’t walked with the Lord like you should.  Like the old hymn says, you’ve been “prone to wander, Lord, I feel it; prone to leave the God I love.”  What do you do now?   Can you have a new beginning in your walk with God?  Yes, indeed, and here are my suggestions to help you have that new beginning:
Own up to your past.
Don’t live in denial.  Don’t keep shifting blame.  Don’t try to ignore it.  Don’t make up excuses.  Just get it out in the open—first with God.  Confess it to him.  Then you may need to ask others for forgiveness; in some cases that is necessary and important. But call it what it is—sin—ask for forgiveness, and bring it out into the light.  Until we own up to our part in the wrong decisions of our lives, we can never get past them.
Refuse to live in despair.
You don’t have to live in despair, even over your sinful past.  So:
You married the wrong person.
You had an abortion.
You committed adultery or fornication.
You spent money you should not have spent.
You lied to your boss.
You chose the wrong career.
You went to the wrong school.
You walked away from God and the church.
You bought the wrong house.
You ate the wrong food.
You chose the wrong friend.

I don’t know what is on your list from your past, but I know that God wants to make an example of how he can still be glorified, even though your past has been spoiled.
Many times we give up on ourselves, live in guilt and settle for so much less than God wants to do for us, just because we can’t forgive ourselves.  Don’t you know that your enemy wants to keep you mired down in your past?  Don’t let him win.  You don’t have to live in despair and regret, even if you live with the consequences of past sin in your life.
Start where you are and go forward.
The Bible is full of examples and admonitions for us to believe that God can make good things even out of our messes.
Isaiah 51:3:  The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord.  Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.
Isaiah 58:11:  The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.  You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
Isaiah 61:1-3:  The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.  They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.
You can be an oak of righteousness, if you will put your past behind you and go forward from where you are.  Yes, even though your past is not what it should be.
I’m here to tell you today that God remembers our frame and knows that we are dust, so it doesn’t surprise him to see how often we wander off.  What must, however, break his heart is to see how we wallow in that sin and allow our past to keep us living in guilt and despair instead of taking our medicine and going forward.  What must break God’s heart is to see how we don’t learn lessons that we need to learn from our past, and we keep making the same mistakes over and over.  It must indeed grieve God to see that we don’t allow him to turn our deserts into gardens and our ashes into beauty.
God can give you the grace to live above your past, even though the effects of your past may last for a lifetime, if you will allow him to do that in your life.  And you will be amazed at how you can find joy and peace and fulfillment and be used of God even though you’ve made some wrong choices and bad decisions.
That’s the kind of God we serve.  He has all power.  He can do anything.  Are you willing to let him take your past and make something good out of it?  Are you willing to stop using your bad choices as excuses for not going forward with God and being a blessing to others?  Are you willing to allow him to put your past behind you so you can be all that God wants you to be? If so, you can find a fresh start today, a new beginning, right here, right now.

God's Goodness

He Uses Our Difficulties

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
(2 Corinthians 12:10, NIV)
TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria
We all face difficult situations. Somebody isn’t treating you right; your business is not growing as fast as you had hoped, or maybe you’re single and still haven’t met anyone. It’s easy to get frustrated and anxious on the inside. You don’t understand why it’s taking so long or why things haven’t changed.

But here’s a key: just because it’s an uncomfortable place doesn’t mean it’s not where you’re supposed to be. God uses difficulties to do a work in us. We grow in the tough times. That’s when our character is being developed. God will not allow a difficulty unless He has a divine purpose for it. If we’re going to reach our highest potential, we have to make up our mind, “I’m not going to live frustrated because I am uncomfortable. I’m not going to be upset because things are not happening on my timetable. I’m not going to fight against everything that I don’t like.” Instead, believe that God is doing a work in you. Believe that He has the best for you. And see yourself moving forward in the victory He has prepared for you.
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, today I give You my questions, frustrations, concerns and doubts. Have Your way in me. I trust that You are at work in every difficult situation in my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
— Joel & Victoria Osteen
